Decent Neighbourhood Standards
Every neighbourhood in Newcastle will be brought up to a decent standard under a new set of proposals by the city council.
The council, with residents, wants to create its own Decent Neighbourhoods Standard to ensure consistently good services in each of the city’s 26 wards, with services such as street cleaning, graffiti removal and bin collection being constantly monitored and improved.
Residents who would like to make their views known and take part in an online survey.
Ashburton Deli Survey and
Christon Road Recreation Ground
Ashburton Deli group is a friendly group of Gosforth residents who share a love of good, local and unusual food. The group came together thanks to the idea of one passionate Gosforth resident who would love to see Ashburton Road or the surrounding area develop into a ‘foodie’ destination – building on the strengths of the existing traders. We have a vision to bring a farmer’s market feel to the urban location of Gosforth, working with the existing local traders to sell good food that has been mainly been produced in the North East. Items like cooked meats, freshly baked artisan breads, cheeses, chutneys, soups, smoked foods, pates, plus a selection of delicious homemade meals / pies and quiches that have been carefully prepared by local suppliers.
Our aim is that this shop would be set up as a co-operative: community owned and run and we’d like to get you involved right now. Please take 10 minutes to give us your views by filling in our online survey

The origin of the area's name is thought to have come from the title Gese Ford meaning “the ford over the Ouse”, referring to a crossing over the local River Ouse or Ouseburn, however others think that it comes from the Old English Gosaford meaning a ford where the geese dwell, and it is first recorded as Goseford in 1166.
The modern day centre of Gosforth, straddling the Great North Road (Gosforth High Street), originated in 1826 as a settlement known for several decades as Bulman Village. A stone bearing the name 'Bulman Village' survives and was incorporated in the facade of a later building, the Halifax Bank building north of the Brandling Arms public house.
If you have any information on or images of 'Historic Gosforth' that you think should be included on this webpage please email the ward co-ordinator.
